BBT/School of Russian AMERICAN Ballet Scholarship PROGRAM

General Information

BBT/School of Russian American Ballet scholarship program was created to provide dance scholarships for some of the most talented dancers at BBT and to help revitalize the communities of Brooklyn.

BBT is attempting to address a major need in the lower-income and immigrant neighborhoods of Brighton Beach, Coney Island and Sheepshead Bay where there is a lack of cultural and artistic programming for children, age 10-18. As part of its ongoing goal of providing a cultural oasis for the community, BBT places a major emphasis on attracting and educating talented children from disadvantaged families. Since many of these children lack sufficient financial resources to complete a dance education, BBT often subsidizes the cost of their education or even provides outright full-tuition scholarships. Using this approach, BBT has been successful in supporting the early dance careers of a number of talented children with partial or full dance scholarships.

Scholarships are offered annually through BBT/School of Russian American Ballet, a non-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting dance in Brooklyn. Scholarships are awarded to help the cost of attending dance classes.

Scholarship students are required to attend all classes, rehearsals, scheduled for all BBT performances.

Purpose

The purpose of the BBT/School of Russian American Ballet scholarship program is to give the opportunity for students to participate in arts programs that emphasize excellence and one on one mentoring with professional artists and artistic innovation, to discover fitness and dance alternatives while at the same time helping to build an appreciation for the arts in Brooklyn and seaside communities. In addition, the BBT/School of Russian American Ballet scholarship program gives its students first hand professional stage experience and makes them more confident in pursuing their future endeavors.
